EARTHQUAKE IN OAXACA, MEXICO

 

 

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 was recorded today, 27 June 2016 at 3.52pm, in Pinotepa de Don Luis, Oaxaca which situated about 350km to the southeast of Mexico City.

 

2.   The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the tremor had a preliminary magnitude of 5.7 and its epicentre was about 10 kilometers north of the town of Pinotepa de Don Luis, in the southern state of Oaxaca,  at a depth of 9 kilometers.

 

3.   The quake set tall buildings rocking in Mexico City, causing people to briefly leave offices and congregate on the streets. The temblor was also felt in the states of Guerrero, Puebla and Tlaxcala.

 

4.   The Civil Protection agency in Oaxaca, told local TV station that there were no initial signs of significant damage or anyone being hurt, this was confirmed later via a tweet by Mr. Gabino Cue, the Governor of Oaxaca that there was no damage to strategic installations or state services.

 

5.   No Malaysian citizens were known to be in the affected area during the incident.
