KIDNAPPING OF FOUR MALAYSIANS OFF LIGITAN ISLAND
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, the Honourable Dato’ Sri Anifah Hj. Aman spoke to the Honourable Jose Rene Almendras, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines today. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia sought the cooperation of the Philippine Government to locate the four Malaysians abducted by gunmen on 1 April 2016. He stressed that the safety of the Malaysians are of utmost importance and Malaysia will continue to work closely with the Philippines in working towards securing their release.
The four abducted Malaysians are Wong Teck Kang, 31; Wong Hung Sing, 34; Wong Teck Chii, 29 and Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21.
The Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines ensured Malaysia that the Philippines is taking all the necessary efforts to locate their whereabouts. He also informed that the Philippine military is conducting an extensive naval blockade operation along the Philippines’ southern coastline in searching for the suspected gunmen.
