Malaysia Hosts Historic ASEAN-GCC-China Summit

On 27 May 2025, Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim chaired the first-ever ASEAN-GCC-China Summit in Kuala Lumpur, marking a significant milestone in multilateral diplomacy. This landmark gathering brought together ASEAN, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and China—three major global players—to explore new avenues of cooperation and economic collaboration.

Malaysia underscored the need for inclusive and sustainable growth, and called for stronger partnerships in digital economy, artificial intelligence, clean energy, and green finance. The ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement was highlighted as a key pillar for digital integration in the region.
In a forward-looking proposal, Malaysia called for the creation of a regional business council to enhance dialogue among the private sectors of ASEAN, GCC, and China—recognising the pivotal role of businesses in unlocking economic opportunities.
The Summit concluded with the adoption of a Joint Statement, reaffirming shared commitment to regional peace, progress, and cooperation. The leaders also exchanged views on pressing global issues, including the situations in the Middle East and Palestine.
This historic Summit reflects Malaysia’s leadership and commitment to shaping a future of inclusivity, sustainability, and strategic cooperation.
