MEETING WITH PRESIDENT OF ASIA-PACIFIC FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE, SENATE OF THE REPUBLIC OF MEXICO

H.E. Jamal Sharifuddin Bin Johan had the honour of meeting with the Asia-Pacific Foreign Relations Committee of the Mexican Senate, led by Senator Yeidckol Polevnsky. Before the discussion, Senator Mauricio Vila Dosal, Vice President of the Senate of the Republic, delivered his welcoming remarks. The discussion reaffirmed the strong and longstanding bilateral relations between Malaysia and Mexico, which have flourished since the establishment of diplomatic ties on 27 March 1974.
Some Key Highlights of the Meeting:
Robust Economic Partnership – Mexico remains Malaysia’s largest trading partner in Latin America, with bilateral trade increasing by 28.6% in 2024, reaching USD 6.32 billion. Mexico is Malaysia’s 18th largest trading partner and Malaysia is Mexico’s 9th largest trading partner.

ASEAN-Mexico Cooperation – As Malaysia assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, we look forward to expanding ASEAN-Mexico engagement in key sectors including digital economy, renewable energy and sustainable development.
Malaysia welcomes Mexico’s ongoing efforts towards ratifying the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), which will serve as a foundation for more profound diplomatic, economic, and cultural exchanges. We also recognise Mexico’s vital role in multilateral diplomacy and look forward to continued collaboration in international forums.
This engagement underscores Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening partnerships based on mutual benefit and shared prosperity, paving the way for greater regional and global cooperation.
