MEETING WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE STATE OF GUERRERO

On 19th August 2016, H.E. Ambassador Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, Malaysian Ambassador to Mexico had a meeting with Mtro. Rene Juarez Albarran, representative of the State of Guerrero in Mexico City together with his officials at the latter’s office. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Mohd Hafiz Abdul Jalil, Trade Commissioner and Ms. Bieyka Jimenez, Marketing Officer from MATRADE Mexico City.
During the meeting, the Ambassador was briefed on the latest development in the State of Guerrero. Guerrero is located in Southwestern Mexico with tourism as its economic mainstay. The main cities in Guerrero are Acapulco, Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. Other economic activities include agriculture and energy sector. From January to May 2016, Guerrero received more than three million local tourists and two hundred thousand international tourists mainly from US, Europe, Asia and Canada.
The two sides explored the possibility of expanding trade and investment between Malaysia and the State of Guerrero with opportunities for Malaysian companies in the hospitality and tourism industry. Currently, the main investors in Acapulco are from US, Spain and Singapore.
