MEETING WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE STATE OF YUCATAN
On 26th August 2016, H.E. Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, Ambassador of Malaysia to Mexico had a meeting with Mr. Jose Ignacio Mendicuti Pavon, representative of the State of Yucatan in Mexico City and his officials at the latter’s office. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Mohd Hafiz Abdul Jalil, Trade Commissioner and Ms. Bieyka Jimenez, Marketing Officer from MATRADE Mexico City.
During the meeting, the Ambassador was briefed on the latest development in the State of Yucatan. Yucatan is located in Southeastern Mexico between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Currently, the State Government of Yucatan has been focusing on the development of medical tourism, education, science and technology park, automotive, logistics, tourism, agriculture and agro biotech sectors. The two sides discussed the possibility of expanding trade and investment between Malaysia and the State of Yucatan and potential partnership in the sectors mentioned.
Its strategic location in the southeast of Mexico with easy access to the east coast of the US, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean has attracted many local and foreign companies to set up their business and plant in Yucatan. The main foreign investors currently are from Belgium, Brazil and Germany.
