The National Sports Day 2017 in Mexico was held on Sunday, 15 October 2017 taking advantage of Sunday`s weekly sporting events in Mexico City. On Sundays, the authorities closed 30km road for non-motorized sports activities such as jogging, biking, rollerblading, aerobics and etc. Nearly 10,000 city dwellers participate in this weekly recreational event and the number could reach over 70,000 participants during special events.
In conjunction with the Malaysia´s National Sports Day 2017, H.E. Ambassador Mohammad Azhar Mazlan led a team of 50 participants consisting of the Embassy`s staff and family, MATRADE, PETRONAS as well as colleagues from ASEAN countries in sports activities which include brisk walking, rollerblading and cycling for 4 km through the main thoroughfare of the city – Paseo de la Reforma from Auditorio Nacional to El Ángel de la Independencia. Also present were Ambassador of Algeria, Ambassador of the Philippines, Ambassador of Jamaica and Ambassador of Pakistan. The group took approximately about an hour to complete the activities. At the Ángel de la Independencia, Malaysian participants joined the city dwellers for an aerobic session.
In general, everyone had a good time and proposed for such activities to be conducted on a monthly basis. Besides, promoting a healthy lifestyle, it could also foster a closer network among Malaysians in Mexico. As for H.E. Ambassador Mohammad Azhar Mazlan and his counterparts, brisk walking is their weekly activity.
