New Ambassador of Malaysia delivered his credentials
With Mexico, relationship beyond judged narcos
After delivering his accreditation to President Peña, Mohammad Azhar says that the brothers González Villarreal had a fair trial
President Peña Nieto yesterday received the credentials of ambassadors of 19 countries, including the Ambassador of Malaysia, Mohammad Azhar, who ruled out that the sentencing to death of three Mexicans for drug trafficking in that country will damage the relationship between the two Nations.
He recalled that the sinaloan José Regino, Simon and Luis Alfonso González Villarreal, sentenced to death in 2012, was entitled to a trial fair and that their case is now being analyzed by the Clemency Board, "it will continue its route, and we'll see what happens," and stressed that both Nations continue the dialogue through the ministries of Foreign Affairs.
"From our point of view we have explored all legal routes for these three persons who have been condemned in my country;" We have made a fair trial according to the rule of law in Malaysia. You know that we have zero tolerance for drugs and narcotics", he stressed.
"As to whether this will affect our relationship, I do not think so, because this is really a strategic alliance between the two countries and goes far beyond a legal situation" abounded Azhar.
The diplomat added that the Government of Malaysia has given opportunity to the three Mexican citizens to have a due process, and they have been given access to the Mexican Consulate. The Ambassador in Kuala Lumpur, Félix Corona, has been very active to provide assistance to the three citizens who are in prison".
Ecuador appreciates support
The Ambassador of Ecuador, Leonardo Arízaga Schmegel, thanked the support of the Mexican people and their Government after the earthquake of last April 16, causing destruction of the coast, damage to more than two million people, the death of 660 and the displacement of 30 thousand hostels.
Arizaga said that thanks to the help of the Mexicans which have sent nine planes with humanitarian aid, and reported that President Enrique Peña Nieto offered his Government's support for reconstruction efforts.
Questioned on statements by Donald Trump against migrants, the diplomat stated that the Mexican authorities "have managed to respond firmly and with honor to the statements by a presidential candidate that we do not endorse".
On the same subject, the Ambassador of Honduras, Alden Rivera said there is not a stance of his Government, but considered that his country will be "always on the side of Mexico".
As for the Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Andrian Yelemessov, stressed that while other countries close their diplomatic headquarters because of the crisis, that nation opened its first diplomatic office in our country.
The ambassadors of Israel, Qatar, Palestine, Finland, Brazil, Georgia, El Salvador, Venezuela, Portugal, Australia, Honduras, Peru, Colombia, Philippines and India, also presented their credentials.
