Speech by Her Excellency Dato’ Jamaiyah Mohamed Yusof, Ambassador of Malaysia to His Excellency Sir Colville Young Governor-General of Belize
At Belize House in Belmopan, Belize on 14 November 2011
Excellency,
I have the honour to present to Your Excellency the letter by which His Majesty The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah has appointed me as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Belize. At the same time, I also have the honour to submit to Your Excellency, the Letter of Recall of my predecessor.
2. On this formal occasion, allow me, Excellency, to convey the feeling of high esteem and the warm personal greetings and best wishes of His Majesty The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and The Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia to Your Excellency and the Government and people of Belize.
3. I humbly come to Your Excellency, today, to attest and reaffirm the commitment of the Government of Malaysia for the reinforcement of the friendship which exists between our two countries since the establishment of our diplomatic relations.
4. Malaysia and Belize always share many aspirations in the framework of their common membership in the Commonwealth, the Non-Aligned Movement and the United Nations Organization. We have worked closely together and shared many similar views on many international issues of common concern to our two countries. Malaysia will continue to work closely with Belize particularly within the context of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP). So far, quite a substantial number of Belizean officials have benefitted from the programme since 1997. This has in many ways contributed towards the enhancement of our bilateral relations, especially in the area of capacity building and human resources development. We look forward for more Belizeans to participate in this programme.
5. Malaysia firmly believes that developing countries should work closely together in enhancing their economies and raising the standards of living of their people. In the development process of our economies, there are opportunities and potentials for the reinforcement of our cooperation for the mutual benefit of our two countries, especially in the field of trade and investment.

6. As an accredited Ambassador of Malaysia to Belize, I look forward to working in close cooperation with your Government in strengthening further bilateral relations.
7. I would like to take this opportunity to convey my best wishes for Your Excellency’s continued good health and the peace, progress and prosperity for the Government and people of Belize.
