PRESENTATION ON MALAYSIA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CELAYA, GUANAJUATO, MEXICO, 25 - 26 NOVEMBER 2015

HE Ambassador Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, accompanied by Malaysian Trade Commissioner, Mr. Mohd Hafiz Abdul Jalil and two Embassy’s local staff, visited the University of Celaya in the state of Guanajuato, about 4 hours drive to the north of Mexico City, from 25^th to 26^th November 2015.

2.         HE Ambassador Azhar was the university’s guest of honour of the “Orgullo Uni” Awards Ceremony, where outstanding students received awards for their academic, sports, social and entrepreneur excellence.  After the ceremony, he delivered a talk on “Culture and Business in Malaysia”. The audience of more than 100 people mainly students and faculty members showed a great interest on the topics raised especially on education opportunities in Malaysia, TPP, trade and investment, international terrorism and Malaysian culture.   A photo display of places of interest and tradition of Malaysia was also set up at the foyer of the auditorium.

3.         This was followed by a press conference where Celaya print and electronic media was given the opportunity to be briefed about the visit and about Malaysia-Mexico relations by the Ambassador himself as well as officials from Guanajuato Tourism Secretary and University`s Faculty members.

4.         During the visit, HE Ambassador Azhar also had meetings with officials from the Coordination to Promote International Trade in Guanajuato (COFOCE) and PROMEXICO, a trust fund of the Mexican Government - a subdivision of the Ministry of Economy.  He took the opportunity to visit the Inland Port located in Silao, Guanajuato. Volkswagen and Pirelli are among the big investors of more than 96 foreign companies located in the Inland Port, considered the biggest industrial-cum- inland port facilities in the Central American Region.  

5.         The visit was a success in making Malaysia known to the university public in Celaya based on the interest and feedbacks received.  The ambassador was the first ambassador from the Diplomatic Corps in Mexico to have been invited by the University.
