COMUNICADO DE PRENSA EN LA PRESENTACIÓN DE CARTAS CREDENCIALES POR SU EXCELENCIA MOHAMMAD AZHAR MAZLAN, EMBAJADOR DE MALASIA EN MÉXICO A SU EXCELENCIA ENRIQUE PEÑA NIETO, PRESIDENTE DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS EL MIÉRCOLES, 11 DE MAYO DE 2016

Su Excelencia Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, Embajador de Malasia en México presentó sus Cartas Credenciales a Su Excelencia Enrique Peña Nieto, Presidente de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos el miércoles 11 de mayo de 2016. El Embajador es el octavo Embajador de Malasia que ha recibido el honor y privilegio de representar a Malasia en México.

2.         Los lazos diplomáticos formales entre México y Malasia se establecieron hace cuarenta y dos (42) años el 27 de marzo de 1974. Desde entonces, la cooperación y las relaciones bilaterales han avanzado en todos los ámbitos. En los foros internacionales, Malasia y México comparten opiniones e inquietudes comunes sobre temas que afectan a la comunidad internacional de Naciones. Esto ha creado un ambiente propicio y mutuamente amistoso entre los dos países a nivel bilateral y multilateral.

3.         Las relaciones comerciales entre Malasia y México han seguido una trayectoria ascendente. Para México, Malasia es el 4to proveedor de importaciones de Asia, después de China, Japón y Corea del Sur. México es el mayor socio comercial de Malasia en Centro América y también es el destino de exportación más grande de Malasia y la mayor fuente importaciones. En el año 2015, las exportaciones de Malasia a México ascendieron a USD1.59 billones, mientras que las importaciones de Malasia en México ascendieron a USD383.1 millones. El comercio total entre los dos países para el año 2015 ascendió a USD1.97 billones. Bajo la alianza estratégica del  Acuerdo Transpacífico de Cooperación Económica (TPP), Malasia y México se complementan mutuamente en el sector de manufactura y servicios. Malasia considera a México para cooperar en diferentes sectores industriales tales como el aeroespacial, el automotriz, la biotecnología, la educación, la comida halal, TIC (contenidos creativos), dispositivos médicos, aceite y gas, así como el sector maderero.

4.     Además de la cooperación económica, Malasia y México han tenido una larga historia de cooperación en el área educativa. México es uno de los 130 países beneficiarios del Programa de la Cooperación Técnica de Malasia (MTCP). El programa es el compromiso de Malasia bajo la cooperación Sur-Sur para compartir sus experiencias de desarrollo con otros países en desarrollo. Bajo el MTCP hasta la fecha, un total de 49 participantes mexicanos han participado en diversos cursos de corto y largo plazo. En el año 2015, hubo tres participantes en dicho programa.

5.         Asimismo, el Colegio de México (COLMEX), la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEM) y la Universidad Intercultural del Estado de México (UIEM) firmaron un Memorando de Entendimiento de Cooperación con la Universidad Nacional de Malasia (UKM). Desde 2013 hasta la fecha, 380 estudiantes mexicanos y 70 estudiantes malasios han participado en el programa de movilidad estudiantil en ambos países. Malasia y México actualmente están negociando el Acuerdo para evitar la Doble Tributación, el Memorando de Entendimiento sobre Cooperación Aduanera, el Memorando de Entendimiento sobre Educación Superior y el Memorando de Entendimiento sobre Turismo.

6.         El Honorable Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Ministro de Comercio Internacional e Industria de Malasia visitará México del 19 al 20 de mayo de 2016, para promover Malasia como un destino estratégico de negocios para empresas mexicanas y como socio proveedor. Durante la visita, además de reunirse con los líderes industriales mexicanos, el Señor Ministro sostendrá una reunión bilateral con su homólogo mexicano, el Lic. Ildefonso Guajardo Villareal, Secretario de Economía de México.

7.         El Honorable Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Primer Ministro de Malasia ha invitado a Su Excelencia el Presidente Enrique Peña Nieto para participar como uno de los oradores en la Conferencia Internacional sobre la Estrategia Océano Azul en Kuala Lumpur del 16 al 18 de agosto de 2016. En su calidad de patrocinador de la Fundación Económica Islámica del mundo, el Primer Ministro de Malasia también ha invitado el Presidente de México para ofrecer un discurso especial en la 12º Foro Económico Islámico en Yakarta, Indonesia, del 2 al 4 de agosto de 2016.

8.         Considerando la fortaleza política, económica y social y los lazos estratégicos entre Malasia y México, en esencia hay un enorme potencial para que las relaciones avancen hacia mayores alturas. El Embajador de Malasia en México y los miembros del personal de la Embajada de Malasia en la ciudad de México están listos para continuar este emprendimiento común para beneficio de los pueblos de Malasia y México.

PRESS STATEMENT AT THE PRESENTATION OF LETTERS OF CREDENCE BY

HIS EXCELLENCY MOHAMMAD AZHAR MAZLAN, AMBASSADOR OF MALAYSIA TO MEXICO TO HIS EXCELLENCY  ENRIQUE PEÑA NIETO, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED MEXICAN STATES ON WEDNESDAY, 11 MAY 2016

His Excellency Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, Ambassador of Malaysia to the United Mexican States presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Enrique Peña Nieto, President of the United Mexican States on Wednesday, 11 May 2016. The Ambassador is the eighth Malaysian Ambassador to have been given the honour and privilege to represent Malaysia in Mexico.

2.            The formal diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Mexico have been established forty two (42) years ago on 27 March 1974. Since then, bilateral relations and cooperation have been progressing in all spheres. At the international fora, Malaysia and Mexico share common views and concerns on global issues that affect the international community of nations. Thus, this has created a mutually friendly and conducive environment between the two countries at the bilateral and multilateral levels.

3.            The trade relations between Malaysia and Mexico have been on the upward trajectory. Malaysia is by far Mexico´s 4^th largest import supplier from Asia behind China, Japan and South Korea. México is Malaysia’s largest trading partner in Central America and the country is also Malaysia’s largest export destination and the largest import source. In 2015, Malaysia’s exports to México amounted to USD1.59 billion, while Malaysia’s imports from México amounted to USD383.1 million. The total trade between the two countries for 2015 amounted to USD1.97 billion. Under the strategic alliance of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), Malaysia and Mexico complement each other on manufacturing and services sector. Malaysia looks towards Mexico for cooperation in industry such as aerospace, automotive, biotechnology, education, halal, ICT (creative content), medical devices, oil and gas as well as timber.   

4.            Apart from the economic cooperation, Malaysia and Mexico have had a long history of cooperation in education. Mexico is one of the 130 recipient countries of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP). The program is Malaysia’s commitment under the South-South cooperation to share its developmental experiences with other developing nations. To date, a total of 49 Mexican participants have undergone various short and long-term courses offered under the MTCP. In 2015, there were three participants who took part in the programme.

5.            In addition, Colegio de Mexico (COLMEX), Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico (UAEM) and Universidad Intercultural del Estado de Mexico (UIEM) had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation with the National University of Malaysia (UKM). Since 2013 to date, 380 Mexican students and 70 Malaysian students had participated in the student mobility program in both countries. Malaysia and Mexico are also currently negotiating the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA), MoU on Customs Cooperation, MoU on Higher Education and MoU on Tourism.

6.            The Honourable Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry Malaysia is scheduled to visit Mexico from 19 to 20 May 2016, to promote Malaysia as a strategic business destination for Mexican businesses and a competitive sourcing partner. During the visit, apart from meeting with the Mexican captains of industry, the Honourable Minister is also scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with his Mexican counterpart, the Honourable Ildefonso Guajardo Villareal, Minister of Economy Mexico.

7.            The Honourable Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia has extended an invitation to His Excellency President Enrique Peña Nieto to participate as one of the speakers in the International Conference on Blue Ocean Strategy in Kuala Lumpur from 16 to 18 August 2016. In his capacity as the patron of the World Islamic Economic Foundation, the Prime Minister of Malaysia has also invited the President of Mexico to deliver special address at the 12^th World Islamic Economic Forum in Jakarta, Indonesia from 2 to 4 August 2016.

8.            Considering the political, economic and social strength of the strategic ties between Malaysia and Mexico, in essence there is tremendous potential for the relations to move towards greater heights. The Ambassador of Malaysia to Mexico and the staff members of the Embassy of Malaysia in Mexico City stand ready to be the enabler to achieve this common endeavour for the mutual benefit of the peoples of Malaysia and Mexico.
