RENEWAL OF MoU BETWEEN THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF MALAYSIA (UKM) AND THE UNIVERSIDAD INTERCULTURAL DEL ESTADO DE MÉXICO (UIEM)
On 1 March, H.E. Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, Ambassador of Malaysia to Mexico attended the Signing Ceremony of the MoU renewal between UKM and UIEM at San Felipe del Progreso, State of Mexico. It was held in UIEM’s Auditorium in the presence of 100 students and staff members. Prior to the ceremony, Ambassador Azhar was accorded an indigenous Mazahua welcoming ceremony, where two indigenous ladies performed a ritual called saludo a los puntos cardinales (greet to the cardinal points) to start the day’s activities successfully. Mtro. Arturo Velez Escamilla, Rector of UIEM signed the MoU witnessed by H.E. Ambassador Mohammad Mazlan; Mtro. Juan J Zendejas Maya, legal representative UIEM; Dr. Franklin Rivera Pineda, Director of Extension UIEM; and Mtra. Cristina Amalia Gaytan, Director General of Superior Education of the State of Mexico.
In his remarks, Ambassador Azhar expressed his gratitude to UIEM and the Government of State of Mexico for the on-going exchange program with UKM. He underscored the importance for the new generation to have an international exposure as such collaboration would assist Malaysia to learn from Mexico and vice versa. An indigenous Mazahua music band also performed two songs highlighting their joy and proudness for having a centre of excellence that encourages and supports the local indigenous communities to be a better and professional-prepared people for the world.
