The Embassy of Malaysia is pleased to share that the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) Leader of Malaysia, Dato' Sri Amran Mohamed Zin, recently held a bilateral meeting with the SOM Leader of Timor-Leste, H.E. Milena Maria da Costa Rangel, to discuss the progress of Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN.
During the meeting, Malaysia commended Timor-Leste’s strong commitment to fulfilling the Roadmap criteria and reaffirmed its support through various capacity-building initiatives. These include an allocation of RM3.7 million under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) and the development of a special attachment programme for Timor-Leste officials.
Malaysia also highlighted its contribution of USD200,000 towards the establishment of the Timor-Leste Unit within the ASEAN Secretariat, which is expected to begin operations in May 2025. This support reflects Malaysia’s steadfast commitment to assisting Timor-Leste’s smooth and successful integration into the ASEAN family.
