SECURITY BRIEFING BY THE SECRETARY OF PUBLIC SECURITY OF MEXICO CITY

On 27th  July, Malaysia in its capacity as the Chairman of ASEAN Committee in Mexico City (ACMC) arranged a security briefing by the Secretary of Public Security of Mexico City, Lic. Hiram Almeida Estrada for ACMC´s Ambassadors.  Led by H.E. Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, Ambassador of Malaysia, two other ASEAN’s Ambassadors namely H.E. Yusra Khan, Ambassador of Indonesia and H.E. Rommanee Kananurak, Ambassador of Thailand attended the briefing.  While Philippines and Vietnam were represented by Charge de Affairs a.i.  Also present were the officials of ASEAN Embassies as well as Primer Superintendent Lic. Luis Alfredo Hernandez Velaquez, Primer Superintendent Lic Jose Gil Garcia and Mtro. Juan Carlos Contreras Licona of the Public Security Office, Mexico City.

 

The briefing included a tour of the Mexico City police operations control room, where the Ambassadors were showed hands-on how the authority monitors public safety of Mexico City using more than 20,000 CCTV and 89,000 personnel including police traffic, paramedic and helicopter air-patrol.  As a mega city of 21 million population with 6 million vehicles on the roads daily, their efforts in ensuring law and order for the public are commendable.  The ASEAN Ambassadors took the opportunity to exchange views on public security with the Secretary.  ASEAN was made more visible through such meeting with Mexico`s top public official.
