STRENGTHENING TIES BETWEEN SAN LUIS POTOSI AND ASEAN COUNTRIES

On 10 December, the Ambassadors of ASEAN in Mexico, (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam), made a working-visit to the state of San Luis Potosi, Mexico aimed at strengthing the relations with the state in the field of education as well as trade and investment and tourism.

 

The working-visit started at El Colegio de San Luis, A.C., where a round-table-discussion between the five ambassadors and students/faculty members was organized. The discussion centred on “The Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Mexico”, which was moderated by Mr. Tomas Calvillo, academic of the Politics and International Studies Programme.  The ASEAN ambassadors took turn in presenting the following topics: ASEAN General Information and History; ASEAN Community and its Three Pillars; Theme and Priorities of ASEAN 2015; ASEAN Connectivity; and ASEAN Centrality and Dialogue Partners.  Thereafter, bilateral matters were raised during the Question-and-Answer session.

 

This was followed by a courtesy call on the Governor of San Luis Potosi, Hon. Juan Manuel Carreras Lopez. The ASEAN ambassadors were accompanied by Hon. Senator Teofilo Torres Corzo, a Senator of the LXII Legislature of the Mexican Congress representing San Luis Potosi, who is in charge of Asia Pacific at the Mexican Senate.  During the call, the Governor mentioned about the investment trend in the state, especially in automotive FDI (mainly Japanese and American), mining and food industry. Apart from that, he also encouraged cooperation in automotive, education and tourism sectors as a way forward between San Luis Potosi and ASEAN.
