The Twelfth Meeting of Working Group for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Strategic Plan Post-2025 (12th WG-AEC)

The Twelfth Meeting of Working Group for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Strategic Plan Post-2025 (12th WG-AEC) convened on 22–23 February 2025 in Desaru, Johor at the margin of the 31st ASEAN Economic Ministers’ (AEM) Retreat. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Sugumari S. Shanmugam, Senior Director of ASEAN Economic Integration Division, MITI and participated by all ASEAN Member States (AMS) and Timor-Leste, with steadfast support from the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC).
Underpinned by the ASEAN Community Vision (ACV) 2045 which will be launched during ASEAN Malaysia Chairmanship 2025, the 12th WG-AEC prioritised substantially completing the drafting of the AEC Strategic Plan, while deliberating complementary measures to support its implementation in the next 5 years, from 2026-2030.
The Strategic Plan will guide and propel ASEAN towards becoming a more competitive, resilient, inclusive and sustainable economic region, that is dynamic and responsive to emerging opportunities. This Strategic Plan will also be launched alongside the strategic plan(s) of other ASEAN pillars, in 2025.
Before concluding the meeting, the Chair acknowledged the active involvement of meeting members, valuable discussions as well as commendable progress achieved thus far.
