XXIII CONGRESS OF FOREIGN TRADE MEXICO,
LEON, STATE OF GUANAJUATO, 1-2 DECEMBER 2016
H.E. Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, Ambassador of Malaysia to Mexico participated in the XXIII Congress of Foreign Trade Mexico organized by the Mexican Business Council of Foreign Trade (COMCE) at the Poliforum Convention Centre in Leon, State of Guanajuato. The event gathered nearly one thousand participants comprising government officials, captains of industry, SMEs entrepreneurs, members of diplomatic corps, heads of international agencies as well as members of the media. There were a series of panel discussions with wide-ranging topics such as Development of the Value Chain in the Touristic Sector; Tendencies in the National Economy; Facing the Challenges of the Global Environment; Customs Facilitation and Infrastructure; Opportunities of Exportation in the Food Industry; Manufacturing Competitiveness in the Automotive Sector; and Expectations of the Mexican Trade Negotiations as well as Mexican Foreign Trade in the Global Economy; The Pacific Alliance and its Consolidation as a Model of Integration; and The Impact of the World Economy in Mexico.
In conjunction with the Congress, there was also an exhibition with several Mexican companies and state government showcasing their products and services. The culmination of the Congress was the Awards Giving Ceremony by H.E. Lic. Enrique Peña Nieto, President of Mexico to top Mexican companies. The President was accompanied by H.E. Idelfonso Guajardo, Minister of Economy Mexico; H.E. José Antonio Meade, Minister of Finance Mexico; and H.E. Miguel Marquez Marquez, Governor of the State of Guanajuato. The winning companies were from Guadalajara, León, Hidalgo, Mexico City and a university in Guadalajara City. During the Congress, the Ambassador was given the honour for an impromptu interview by Ms. Sofia Salinas Ibarra, Director of Public Relations of Camara de Comercio Mexico Columbia vis-à-vis his perspective on Malaysia-Mexico trade relations as well as the future outlook.
