ASEAN COMMITTEE IN ISLAMABAD (ACI) CHAIRMANSHIP HANDOVER CEREMONY

On Friday, 25 July 2025, H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, participated in the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI) Chairmanship Handover Ceremony, held at the residence of the Ambassador of Myanmar.

 

The event marked the official transfer of the ACI Chairmanship from Myanmar to Thailand. H.E. Wunna Han, Ambassador of Myanmar to Pakistan, handed over the symbolic gavel to H.E. Rongvudhi Virabutr, Ambassador of Thailand to Pakistan. Malaysia expressed its appreciation to Myanmar for its leadership during the past six months and conveyed full support to Thailand in undertaking its responsibilities as the new Chair. Malaysia also reaffirmed its commitment to ASEAN’s collective efforts in strengthening regional cooperation and engagement with Pakistan through the ACI platform.

 

The event was attended by ASEAN Heads of Mission and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, including Foreign Secretary H.E. Amna Baloch. In her remarks, the Foreign Secretary reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to deepening its multifaceted relations with ASEAN. She commended ASEAN’s role in promoting regional peace, economic integration, and people-centered diplomacy, and underscored Pakistan’s longstanding partnership with ASEAN countries, including Malaysia.

 

As the current Chair of ASEAN in 2025, Malaysia continues to advance ASEAN’s shared goals and priorities, including fostering dialogue, economic collaboration, and inclusive regional development. Malaysia’s active role underscores its dedication to strengthening ASEAN’s external partnerships, including with Pakistan.

 

The ACI remains a key platform for ASEAN diplomatic missions in Islamabad to coordinate joint initiatives and promote ASEAN’s visibility and cooperation with Pakistan.
