The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee in Islamabad visited Gujranwala from 1 - 2 March 2024 to link with Gujranwala-based industries and businesses to promote the ASEAN member countries with representation in Islamabad as an investment and alternative export hub for Pakistani-based companies and multinational companies. Mr. Mohd Syafik Hasbullah, Charge d’ Affaires a.i of the High Commission of Malaysia, and Mr. Muhammad Zulasri Rosdi, First Secretary of the High Commission have joined the visit. They were received and hosted by Gujranwala Business Centre (GBC) Chairperson Mr. Ahmad Ikram Lone at the Meridien Hotel, Gujranwala.
During the visit, the ACI members presented the ASEAN Economic Community and the individual economic development thrusts of each member country. Mr. Syafik took the opportunity to make a presentation on the Malaysia-Pakistan economic potential. In his presentation, Mr. Syafik invited businessmen in Gujranwala to explore possibilities and opportunities for them to invest in Malaysia. Mr. Syafik also stated that Malaysia is well-positioned to serve as a central hub for worldwide trade. He mentioned that Malaysia offered a cost-competitive, sustainable, and conducive environment for foreign businesses to thrive.
GBC exhibitors were also provided an opportunity to present their product portfolio and business expansion strategies for their industries. These companies are Ashrafia Group, Sonex, Super Asia, Minhas Group, Waqar Rice, Okto Home Appliances, and Hunting Knives Association. The ACI was able to visit the GBC and the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on the second day. The ACI delegation also visited factories such as Super Asia and Sonex Diecast.
