On August 8, 2016, a flag raising ceremony was held at the High Commission of Malaysia on the occasion of 49th ASEAN Day Anniversary. The Head of Missions and Home-based Staff of all the ASEAN countries were present at the occasion. His Excellency Mr. Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, was invited as the Chief Guest of the event. His Excellency also led the cake cutting ceremony to celebrate the 49th Anniversary of ASEAN Day. The Head of Missions of all the ASEAN countries sang the ASEAN song as a symbol of unity. His Excellency Dato’ Dr. Hasrul Sani Mujtabar, High Commissioner of Malaysia as Host gave welcoming remarks and thanked the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest in his speech, admired the progress and prosperity of the ASEAN countries and expressed the hope that the bilateral ties between Pakistan and the ASEAN countries would be heightened in future and ultimately, Pakistan could become the Full Dialogue Partner of ASEAN.
