On Friday, 26 May 2023, Hon. Adnan Jalil, Acting Provincial Minister for Commerce and Industry, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, met with Ambassador Azhar Mazlan at the High Commission. They discussed the way forward to strengthen further bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and Pakistan, with a focus on trade and investment. Both sides expressed their commitment to exploring new opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and information technology. They also discussed organizing trade delegations and promoting cultural exchanges to strengthen people-to-people ties. Regional and global issues of common interest, including counterterrorism and sustainable development, were also deliberated.
During the meeting, a proposal was put forward by the Minister to launch the ASEAN Facilitation Desk at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) to further boost trade between Pakistan and ASEAN member states. This initiative is aimed at creating a dedicated platform that would facilitate and promote bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two sides.
The meeting concluded with optimism for the future of Malaysia-Pakistan relations and a commitment to maintaining regular communication. The proposal to launch the ASEAN Facilitation Desk was received positively by Malaysia, and both sides expressed their eagerness to move forward with this initiative to further strengthen trade relations between Pakistan and ASEAN member states.
