On Wednesday, 4 December 2024, Ambassador Dato' Azhar received a courtesy call from Mr. Shafqat Ali, representative of the Silk Road Travel & Tour from Gilgit Baltistan Province / Executive Committee Member of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Islamabad. Both sides acknowledged the importance of fostering stronger cooperation and promoting tourism between the two brotherly Islamic countries. Mr. Mohd Syafik Firdaus Bin Hasbullah, Counsellor / Deputy Head of the High Commission was also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, Mr. Shafqat Ali briefed about tourism potential of Gilgit Baltistan and cultural heritage for the attraction of tourists from Malaysia. The two sides discussed the way forward to strengthen further bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and Pakistan, with a focus on trade and investment. Both sides expressed their commitment to exploring new opportunities for export of Apples, Apricot and other dry fruits from Gilgit Baltistan to Malaysia.
In his remarks, Ambassador Dato' Azhar expressed his gratitude to Mr. Shafqat Ali on his efforts in promoting tourism in Gilgit Baltistan. The Ambassador assured full cooperation of the High Commission to explore avenues for collaboration in this sector.
