DEPUTIES OF THE ASEAN AMBASSADORS MEETING FOR THE ASEAN ISLAMABAD COMMITTEE AT THE HIGH COMMISSION OF MALAYSIA ON 6 FEBURARY 2009 On Friday, 6 February 2009, the Deputies of the ASEAN Ambassadors Meeting (DAAM) in Islamabad comprising Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, held its first meeting chaired by ENCIK AHMAD AMIRI ABU BAKAR, Head of Chancery / Second Secretary of the High Commission of Malaysia. Hardly a week at post, ENCIK AHMAD AMIRI blazed the trail for the meeting in a true spirit of 'The ASEAN Way' in Islamabad.
In essence, ENCIK AHMAD AMIRI discussed a few ASEAN matters that included the examining of the draft minutes of the last ASEAN Islamabad Committee (AIC) Meeting on January 5, 2009; the rescheduling of ASEAN tentative programmes and activities for the whole year of 2009; and also the proposition of temporarily using the High Commission of Malaysia?s website to promote ASEAN?s initiatives and events in Islamabad, particularly towards the We Feeling of 'ASEAN: One Vision, One Identity, One Community.'
Prior to the DAAM?s meeting, HIS EXCELLENCY AMBASSADOR AHMAD SHAHIZAN ABD SAMAD, High Commissioner of Malaysia, who currently presides as the Chairman of AIC, inaugurated the meeting by reiterating the crucial role played by AIC. He further stressed the spirit and commitments of ASEAN towards the ASEAN Charter, an ASEAN Community in 2015, the promotion of ASEAN's common identity and the sense of belonging among its peoples in achieving the shared destiny, goals and values and, above all, the ?People-Oriented? tasks and dedication among the ASEAN Member States in Islamabad and its counterpart, Pakistan, as the only ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner since 1992.
