On Sunday, 1 December 2024, the Eastern Regional Organisation for Planning & Settlements (EAROPH) hosted the Handing Over Ceremony and President’s Gala Dinner at the Tulip Banquet Hall, Islamabad. His Excellency Amb. Dato' Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan was accompanied by Mr. Nor Azuan Bin Haji Ayub, Third Secretary of the High Commission.
The event was attended by dignitaries from across the country with international delegates from seven (7) countries including Malaysia. The Malaysian delegation was led by Datuk Saidatul Akhma Binti Hassan, Deputy Secretary General, Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Malaysia.
A key highlight of the event was the handover of the EAROPH International Presidency. Dr. Emil Elistiano Dardak of Indonesia, the outgoing EAROPH International President, formally passed the presidency to Mr. Jahangir Khan Sherpao for the 2024–2026 term. Mr. Sherpao, an accomplished Architect and City and Regional Planner, has been at the helm of the professional architectural practice CITE in Islamabad since 1989. His distinguished career includes serving as President of the Institute of Architects Pakistan (IAP) and leading 21 countries across Asia as President of the ARCASIA Architects Regional Council Asia.
EAROPH, a non-governmental and multi-sectoral organization, bridges the private, public, and academic sectors to promote the exchange of insights and expertise across its member countries. The EAROPH region, recognized for its dynamic economic growth, urbanization, population diversity, and ethnic variety, spans Asia, Australasia, and the Pacific.
The next EAROPH World Congress is set to take place in Indonesia in 2025, followed by Malaysia as the host in 2026.
