HANDING OVER OF CHAIRMANSHIP OF THE ASEAN ISLAMABAD COMMITTEE TO

THE HIGH COMMISSIONER OF MALAYSIA

 

 

The Chairmanship of the ASEAN Islamabad Committee (AIC) was officially handed over to HIS EXCELLENCY AMBASSADOR AHMAD SHAHIZAN ABD SAMAD, High Commissioner of Malaysia on Monday, January 5, 2009. He will preside over as the Chairman of AIC, effectively from January 1, 2009 until June 30, 2009, for a period of six months.

 

 

 

At the Formal AIC Meeting of 1/2009, it had essentially discussed several pertinent issues, such as the endorsement of the Minutes of the Formal AIC Meeting, updates on ASEAN matters, in particular the ASEAN Charter and the Committee on Permanent Representatives (CPR), achievements of AIC in 2008, and the political, economics and security outlook for Pakistan in 2009.

 

On his remarks as the new chairman of AIC, AMBASSADOR AHMAD SHAHIZAN thanked the ASEAN ambassadors for entrusting him with the responsibilities to lead AIC to greater heights of achievements and successes for the ASEAN Community in Pakistan, the Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN since 1992.

 

He further expressed AIC?s utmost gratitude to HIS EXCELLENCY PEHIN COLONEL (R) ABDUL JALIL AHMAD, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam for his outstanding and dynamic leadership. In addition, he emphasized the need to have several scheduled AIC meetings and activities in 2009, including the flying of ASEAN flag by the Chairman of AIC and the upcoming event of the 42nd ASEAN flag raising ceremony on August 8, 2009.

Most importantly, in concluding, the ASEAN Islamabad Committee, comprising of ASEAN Member Countries from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, has been very active and engaged in promoting ASEAN in Pakistan, particularly its vision towards an ASEAN Community by 2015 that is truly ?ONE Vision, ONE Identity, ONE Community.?
