On Friday, 20 June 2025, His Excellency Ambassador Dato' Mohammad Azhar Mazlan attended a high-level seminar on Bridging the Climate-Adaptation Divide Across the Food-Water-Agriculture Nexus held at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Islamabad. Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Masood Malik, officiated the event as Chief Guest.
The event convened over 200 high-level participants, including senior government officials, climate scientists, development partners, academia, civil society, and private sector representatives. Also in attendance were Ambassadors and Deputy Heads of Mission from Azerbaijan, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, and Yemen.
In his remarks, Dr. Malik highlighted critical aspects of climate strategy, financing, and self-reliance in addressing climate challenges. He discussed Pakistan’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and the governance gaps involving multiple stakeholders. Emphasising the paradox of water abundance versus access, he called for better resource management and equitable access to safe drinking water.
Dr. Malik also underscored the underutilised potential of wetlands for carbon sequestration and called for a shift toward ecological stewardship. He urged action over prolonged dialogue and advocated aligning Pakistan’s adaptive capacity with global innovation metrics and sustainability goals.
