On 24 March 2024, the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, Ambassador Mohammad Azhar Mazlan and spouse, Madam Amelia Amani Azhar hosted the “Iftar Get-Together for Malaysian Diaspora and Friends of Malaysia” at the Malaysian High Commission in Islamabad.
Addressing the event, Ambassador Azhar stated that the main aim of the get-together was for Malaysian community in Pakistan to get together to reflect the true spirit of Ramadan. He believed such an event was a good opportunity to foster the community bonds among fellow Malaysians and Pakistani friends while sharing the blessings of Ramadan. He highlighted the importance of unity and discipline among Malaysian diasporas in Pakistan and their significant contribution towards strengthening the brotherly ties between Malaysia and Pakistan.
Considering the presence of over 100 guests including friends of Malaysia and media personnel, Ambassador Azhar expressed his happiness and assured the guests to make the event as an annual program for the High Commission.
The Iftar event featured a traditional Malaysian menu including mee goreng (fried mee), daging kurma (beef kurma), nasi minyak (scented rice), soto (rice cube chicken soup), and traditional desserts, among others. With the communal atmosphere, many guests cited that they felt like being back home in Malaysia. The event provided guests with the opportunity to engage with officials from the Malaysian High Commission for an update with regard to the latest developments in Malaysia and vice-versa.
The Iftar Get-Together for Malaysian Diaspora and Friends of Malaysia was not merely a social gathering but more importantly a celebration of the shared values and commonalities that bind Malaysia and Pakistan together.
