On 18 August 2025, Senator Sitara Ayaz, Secretary General of the International Parliamentarians’ Congress (IPC), paid a courtesy call on the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Bin Mazlan, at the High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad.

During the meeting, Senator Sitara Ayaz, who hails from Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, briefed Ambassador Azhar on the devastating floods that recently struck Buner and Swat, highlighting the urgent humanitarian needs and the vital role of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in coordinating response and relief efforts. She underlined the scale of damage caused to local communities and stressed the necessity of both national and international assistance to support recovery and rehabilitation.

As Secretary General of IPC, Senator Ayaz also provided an overview of the organisation’s background, international membership, and the training programmes it has facilitated to build capacity in governance, policy dialogue, and parliamentary practices. She highlighted IPC’s role in fostering inter-parliamentary cooperation and engaging stakeholders at regional and global levels.

The discussion further touched upon regional political developments and the situation in Afghanistan, with both sides exchanging views on the broader implications for peace and stability in South Asia.

Ambassador Azhar conveyed appreciation for the valuable briefing and acknowledged the challenges posed by natural disasters and regional dynamics. He reaffirmed Malaysia’s interest in continued engagement on humanitarian cooperation, parliamentary exchange, and people-centred initiatives that contribute to regional stability and development.
