On 6-7 December 2023, the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) organized the Islamabad Conclave 2023. The event under the topic “Pakistan in A Changing World” provides a platform for the highest level of foreign and Pakistan leadership, policymakers, as well as members of the academia to share their knowledge and expertise in finding innovative solutions to regional and international issues concerning political, security, economic issues. The event was attended by Ambassador Azhar and Mr. Mohd Syafik, Counsellor of the High Commission.
The event commenced with welcome remarks by Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Director General of ISSI and an inaugural address by HE. Dr. Arif Alvi, President of Republic Islamic of Pakistan. During his address, the President highlighted that Pakistan requires a dynamic approach to address the threats to regional peace. He also cited that Afghanistan is at the center of superpower rivalry. He stressed the need for adhering to the principles of socio-economic justice among communities by extending them equal opportunities in all fields of life.
Among others, the session discussed the changing regional landscape with a particular focus on Pakistan’s evolving relationships with key neighboring countries including Afghanistan. Ambassador Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s Special Representative to Afghanistan and Mr. Mirvais Yasini, former Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of the Afghan Parliament were invited as speakers of the session.
