On 3 September 2025, the High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad hosted a reception to mark Malaysia’s 68th National Day at Serena Hotel, Islamabad. The event was graced by His Excellency Mr. Bilal Azhar Kayani, Minister of State for Finance of Pakistan, as Chief Guest. Members of the diplomatic community, business leaders, and friends of Malaysia joined the celebration, with close to 400 guests in attendance.
The theme for this year’s National Day, “Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni”, reflects the country’s aspiration of building a caring, inclusive, and sustainable society. MADANI emphasizes values of compassion, respect, and shared responsibility, while Rakyat Disantuni highlights that the people remain at the heart of Malaysia’s progress and development.
In his remarks, the Chief Guest congratulated Malaysia on its 68th National Day and lauded the close and friendly ties between Pakistan and Malaysia. He expressed confidence that relations between the two countries, grounded in mutual respect and shared aspirations, will continue to grow in strength.
His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, reflected on Malaysia’s journey of independence, not only from colonial rule but also in shaping the economic, intellectual, and cultural independence of its people. He emphasized that Malaysia has now assumed the ASEAN Chairmanship for 2025, a responsibility it carries with a vision of strengthening regional unity and resilience. He also highlighted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Malaysia later this year, which is expected to elevate bilateral relations to new heights, particularly in trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges. Looking ahead, he invited guests to experience Malaysia during Visit Malaysia Year 2026, a nationwide celebration showcasing the country’s diverse heritage, natural beauty, and hospitality.
Guests were treated to an authentic taste of Malaysia, prepared by chefs specially flown in for the occasion. The menu featured Nasi Lemak, Malaysia’s beloved national dish of fragrant coconut rice served with spicy sambal and condiments; Sate, skewers of marinated meat grilled over charcoal and served with a rich peanut sauce; Rendang Ayam, a slow-cooked chicken dish simmered in aromatic spices and coconut milk; and Mee Mamak Goreng, a wok-fried noodle dish known for its bold, spicy flavours. For dessert, a colourful spread of kuih talam was served; traditional bite-sized cakes made from rice flour, coconut milk, and palm sugar, often enjoyed during festivals and family gatherings.
The evening was not only a celebration of Malaysia’s independence but also a reaffirmation of the warm friendship and growing partnership between Malaysia and Pakistan. It reflected a shared commitment to peace, prosperity, and closer ties for the future.
