On 23 September 2025, His Excellency Amb. Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, joined fellow Ambassadors of ASEAN member states at a meeting hosted by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce, Mr. Jam Kamal Khan, at the Ministry of Commerce. The engagement reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to enhancing trade, investment, and economic partnerships with Pakistan.
The session was attended by Ambassadors and senior diplomats from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, and Myanmar, underscoring ASEAN’s strong diplomatic presence in Islamabad.
In his remarks, H.E. Dato’ Azhar underscored Malaysia’s readiness to work with Pakistan in unlocking new areas of bilateral trade and investment, noting that Malaysia’s upcoming ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025 would serve as an opportunity for Pakistani businesses to engage more closely with ASEAN markets. He highlighted Malaysia’s role as one of Pakistan’s earliest partners in ASEAN, pointing to the Malaysia-Pakistan Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA) as a platform that could be further utilized to expand commercial cooperation.
H.E. Dato’ Azhar also welcomed Pakistan’s recent trade facilitation measures and emphasized that Malaysia, as a gateway to ASEAN’s dynamic supply chains, could support Pakistani firms in sectors such as technology, halal products, agriculture, and manufacturing.
