In conjunction of the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC), His Excellency the High Commissioner of Malaysia had a meeting with a delegation from TNB Repair and Maintenance Sdn. Bhd. (TNB REMACO). The meeting aimed to explore ways to enhance Malaysia’s presence in Pakistan’s energy sector through sustainable cooperation, technological expertise, and capacity-building development initiatives.

During the meeting, the TNB REMACO delegation shared that the company continues to seek opportunities to operate and maintain more energy plants across Pakistan. However, they noted that competition from Chinese firms has been a recurring challenge, particularly due to the lower costs offered by these companies. Many Chinese firms benefit from integrated supply chains and government-backed incentives, enabling them to underbid competitors. Despite these market challenges, TNB REMACO reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its operations in Pakistan and expressed optimism about future opportunities in the country’s energy landscape, particularly in emerging regions such as Sindh and Balochistan.

Recognizing the strategic importance of Pakistan as a regional energy hub, the High Commissioner of Malaysia advised TNB REMACO to explore a broader partnership model beyond conventional contracts by incorporating human-capacity building components such as training programs, technical courses and scholarship opportunities. He emphasized that Malaysia’s comparative advantage lies not merely in providing services but in building human capital and long-term institutional linkages that can sustain growth. Such initiatives, he noted, would allow TNB REMACO to differentiate itself from competitors while also contributing meaningfully to Pakistan’s national development agenda.

TNB REMACO, a subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) - Malaysia’s premier power utility, was incorporated in 1995 and functions as an independent business entity within the TNB Group. The company specializes in providing comprehensive operations, maintenance and repair (O&M) services for power plants globally. It has earned a reputation for technical excellence, reliability, and adherence to international safety and environmental standards.
