On Tuesday, 3 September 2024, the High Commission of Malaysia celebrated its 67th Anniversary of the National Day of Malaysia at Serena Hotel, Islamabad. H.E. Mr. Jam Kamal Khan, Federal Minister for Commerce graced the event as a Chief Guest. Others present were H.E Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, H.E. Kamran Tessori, Governor of Sindh, H.E Atadjan Movlamov, Dean of Diplomatic Corps, H.E. (Retd) Pengiran Haji Kamal Bashah Bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad, Chair of ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI) / High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam, H.E. Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, Additional Secretary, Asia Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, ASEAN Heads of Mission, Malaysian community-based in Pakistan, think tanks, members of business community and media personnel.
Ambassador Dato’ Azhar and To’ Puan Amelia Azhar welcomed the distinguished guests. The event started with the recitation of doa, followed by the National Anthem of Malaysia "Negaraku" & Pakistan "Pak Sar Zameen Shadbad", a cultural performance by a cultural troupe from the state of Pahang of Malaysia.
In his remarks, Ambassador Dato’ Azhar welcomed the distinguished guests and expressed deep mutual respect for the people of Malaysia to the government of Pakistan. He commended the contributions of Pakistanis living and working in Malaysia to enhance the economy and bilateral relations between the two countries. He further stated that Pakistan was one of the first countries to establish a diplomatic mission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1957. Amb. Dato’ Azhar also shared the news about the forthcoming Official Visit of YAB Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim to Pakistan, elaborating on the visit as a step toward enhancing collaboration between the two brotherly countries.
During the event, Ambassador Azhar also extended warm congratulations and best wishes to Malaysians residing in Pakistan. The guests were served with a delightful array of traditional Malaysian and Pakistani cuisines such as Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai and Teh Tarik, Sambal Sotong Kering, Ayam Goreng Rempah, Ikan Masak Kicap Pedas, Spaghetti Goreng, Fish Curry, Okra, Beef Rendang, Dalca and Sambal Sardine.
While enjoying the food, guests were entertained with Malaysian's wonderful dance performances, namely Zapin Melayu, Malaysia Truly Asia, and Joget Pahang,
The event marked Malaysia’s Independence anniversary and served as a testament to the enduring relationship between Malaysia and Pakistan. The event garnered positive media coverage with officials and participants praising its success and impact.
