On Friday, 05 May 2023, Ambassador Azhar attended the Pakistan Buddhist Cultural Heritage Programme in conjunction with the celebration of Vesak Day.
The event, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan was attended by Ambassadors, High Commissioners and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
Addressing the ceremony, Mr. Syrus Sajjad Qazi, Acting Foreign Secretary stated that Pakistan is proud to have a special association with the Buddhist heritage, stating that Pakistan has been cradle of Buddhist art, culture and civilization for more than thousands of years.
On this occasion, Ambassador Azhar, on behalf of the ASEAN Committee lauded the efforts of the Pakistan government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for preserving cultural heritage of Buddha in Pakistan, and stated that the celebration of Vesak Day is in-line with the message of peaceful co-existence promoted by ASEAN countries.
