Malaysia signed an Inter-Governmental Agreement on Energy (IGA) with Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Islamabad for the potential export of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) into Pakistan. For the signing ceremony, Malaysia was being represented by Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department, YB. Dato' Sri SK Devamany while Mr Sikandar Sultan Raja signed on behalf of Pakistan. His Excellency Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the Prime Minister of Pakistan also attended and witnessed the signing ceremony. With the signing of the IGA, PETRONAS LNG Limited, a subsidiary of PETRONAS and Pakistan LNG Limited, the commercial trading arm of Pakistan, can initiate the commercial discussion towards that purpose.
Prior to the signing ceremony, YB Dato' Sri SK Devamany, while leading Malaysia delegation which includes YBhg. Dato’ Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid, Director General of Economic Planning Unit and Mr Syed Nauzer Idid Dato’ Syed Yusoff Idid, Charge d’Affaires of Malaysia High Commission in Pakistan, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister H.E Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. He conveyed the greetings of the Malaysian leadership to the Prime Minister and stressed the importance of strengthening the economic relations between the two countries especially in the energy sector. With more than 10,000 cargoes delivered to date without fail by PETRONAS to its LNG buyers, is a strong proof of Malaysia Government reliable and stable trade policies according to YB Dato’ Sri SK Devamany. Should the transaction materialised, it will contribute positively to PETRONAS and Malaysia as well as signifies an important milestone in the economic relations between the two countries.
After the signing ceremony, YB Dato’ Sri SK Devamany and delegation also took an opportunity to visit the Malaysian High Commission in Islamabad and meet up with officers of the High Commission. He briefed the officers about the recent economic development in the country and Budget 2018.
