On Tuesday, 12 December 2023, Ambassador Azhar attended the signing ceremony of Instrument of Accession to "Marrakesh Treaty for visually Impaired Persons" at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad. The event was organised by the Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan (IPO). President Dr. Arif Alvi signed the instrument of accession to the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s (WIPO) administered Marrakesh Treaty on behalf of Pakistani government.
The Marrakesh Treaty was aimed to help the visually impaired or otherwise print-disabled people have access to books and literary works in accessible formats. By acceding to the treaty, Pakistan was able to provide its estimated 10 million visually impaired persons easy access to published work.
