THE 42ND ANNIVERSARY OF ASEAN CELEBRATION IN ISLAMABAD ON 8 AUGUST 2009 On Saturday, 8 August 2009, HIS EXCELLENCY AMBASSADOR AHMAD SHAHIZAN ABD SAMAD, High Commissioner and the Home-Based Staff (HBS) of the High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad and their spouses celebrated the 42nd Anniversary of ASEAN at the ISLAMABAD Hotel (formerly known as Holiday-Inn Islamabad) to the theme of ?GREEN ASEAN.? This celebration was organized by the ASEAN Islamabad Committee (AIC) under its new chairman, HIS EXCELLENCY MR. ISHAK LATUCONSINA, Ambassador of Indonesia after taking-over the AIC chair from AMBASSADOR AHMAD SHAHIZAN on July 13, 2009.
In gracing the occasion, HIS EXCELLENCY MR. NAWABZADA MALIK AMAD KHAN, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was the Chief Guest of Honour. The others present were HIS EXCELLENCY MR. MASOOD KHALID, Additional Secretary (Asia Pacific), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, ASEAN Ambassadors/High Commissioners and their respective HBS, ASEAN Community in Islamabad and the friends of ASEAN, i.e., Pakistanis in Islamabad.
Essentially, the sequence of events kicked-off with the playing of the ASEAN Song, National Anthem of Pakistan, cake-cutting ceremony and followed by speeches and mementos presentation.
