As part of the commemoration of Malaysia’s 68th National Day and the 62nd Malaysia Day, His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Mohamad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, undertook an official visit to Karachi from 14-15 September 2025. The Consulate General of Malaysia in Karachi facilitated a series of engagements with prominent economic stakeholders, most notably the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Pakistan–Malaysia Business Council (PMBC).

FPCCI also hosted an interactive session at Federation House, Karachi. The event gathered FPCCI Senior Vice President Mr. Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, PMBC Chairman Mr. Bashir Jan Mohammad, Mr. Muhammad Hanif Gohar, Chairman of Gohar Group of Companies and Air Karachi and industrialist Mian Zahid Hussain, among others.

The discussions centered on strengthening Malaysia–Pakistan economic relations under the framework of the Malaysia–Pakistan Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA). FPCCI members highlighted their interest in expanding imports of palm oil and other edible oils, investing in halal-certified products and exploring cooperation in logistics and real estate development. They also underscored Malaysia’s role as a gateway to ASEAN markets, suggesting that Pakistan could leverage Kuala Lumpur’s strategic position to enhance its regional outreach.

In his remarks, Dato' Azhar reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to the Strategic Partnership and encouraged Pakistani businesses to diversify beyond commodities by engaging with Malaysia’s digital economy, education, tourism and services sectors.
