It has come to the attention of the Embassy of Malaysia in Makati City, Philippines that a small number of Malaysian nationals have been travelling to the Philippines, particularly the Southern Philippines to source and/or trade in Philippine wildlife such as geckos and other lizards.
2. The Embassy advises against such activities by Malaysian nationals in the Philippines due to the following reasons:
i. The export of wild-caught specimens of wild terrestrial fauna in the Philippines is prohibited by the Government of the Philippines under the Republic Act 9174, or the "Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act."
ii. Only wild terrestrial specimens bred in captivity by breeders authorized and registered by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the CITES Management Authority for Terrestrial Wildlife, may be exported.
3. The Embassy wishes to again remind Malaysian nationals travelling to the Philippines to notify the Embassy of Malaysia in Makati City or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia via the following contact details:
