EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA HOSTS 53rd NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION
OF MALAYSIA, 31 AUGUST 2010
His Excellency Dato Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of the Philippines and Her Excellency Datin Seri Dato Zainab Abdul Kader hosted a reception on the occasion of the 53rd National Day of Malaysia on Tuesday, 31 August 2010 at the Heritage Hotel, Manila.
2. The Honourable Alberto Romulo, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Philippines and His Excellency Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps were the guests of honour at the reception. The Honourable Secretary was also accompanied by his wife, Her Excellency Rosie Romulo. The celebration was also attended by about 300 people including an ex-President in H.E. Fidel Ramos, Secretaries, senior Philippine Government and Military officials, politicians, Congressmen, ASEAN Ambassadors, Honorary Consuls, members of the diplomatic corps, businessmen, representatives from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), press members and Malaysian citizens in the Philippines.

Following the national anthems of the Philippines and then Malaysia, His Excellency Ambassador Dato Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad, in his welcome remarks, highlighted the theme chosen for Malaysia’s National Day which is “1Malaysia: Transforming the Nation”. The Ambassador also underlined the good state of relations between Malaysia and the Republic of Philippines, citing the cooperation both countries have enjoyed bilaterally, regionally and internationally.
4. The Honourable Secretary Romulo, in his reply speech congratulated Malaysia on the celebration of its 53rd National Day Anniversary. The Secretary acknowledged the historical ties and good bilateral relations between both countries. He also commended Malaysia for being an active player in ASEAN. The Secretary also expressed appreciation to Malaysia for its role in helping to mediate the peace process in Mindanao, as well as for Malaysia’s role in leading the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in the Southern Philippines.
5. Following the speeches and toasts by the Ambassador and the Secretary, the guests were treated to authentic Malaysian cuisines including Sup Kambing, Nasi Tomato, Ayam Percik, Kari Ayam, Penang Char Kuey Teow, Laksa, Satay, Mee Mamak, assorted pastries, kueh and variety of fresh seasonal fruits. While enjoying the food, the guests were entertained by a live band, and an visual presentation by Tourism Malaysia and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia.
