IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
The Embassy of Malaysia in the Republic of the Philippines would like to direct the attention of Malaysians seeking job opportunities in the Philippines, advertised in Mandarin in social media platform such as Facebook and WeChat.
2. Please be aware that the job opportunities are advertised by illegal employment agencies / recruitment agent/broker with little or insufficient information on the work scope or employment in the Philippines. Almost all of the advertisement do not abide to the standard terms and working condition set by the Department of Labour and Employment, Philippines. Employment contracts are insufficient and prepared against the employees interest.
3. The Embassy would like to alert a rising concern of Malaysians deceived to accept job opportunities in the Republic disguised in many job titles, where in reality, the job involved are related to online gambling sector without proper employment contract given either before or after arrival in the Philippines
4. The recruited Malaysians are deceived to surrender their passports in the pretext of work visa application. At the same time, if the employee is terminated by the “so-called” contract term, the recruited Malaysians are forced to pay a huge amount of money in order to get their passports back from the employer. The amount can cost around P40,000.00 to P180,000.00 (RM3,200.00 to RM14,400.00) under the pretext of visa processing fee cost, food allowance, return flight ticket and accommodation. Unfortunately, since there was no working visa application made by the company, after paying the large amount to retrieve the passport, the Malaysians also face an immigration penalty fee for overstaying in the Philippines.
5. In this regard, the Embassy would like to urge the Malaysian public not to be deceived into accepting such job offers through such advertisements to avoid finding themselves in a difficult financial situation in the Philippines.
