MALAYSIA TECHNICAL COOPERATION PROGRAMME –
SCHOLARS ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES, INC. (MTCP-SAPI)
“SHARE A DAY WITH THE LESS PRIVELEGED CHILDREN”
RECEPTION AND STUDY CENTRE, QUEZON CITY

The Embassy of Malaysia in Manila, in coordination the Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) – Scholars Association of the Philippines Incorporated (SAPI) conducted the “Share a Day with the Less Privileged Children” Programme on 28 November 2010 at the Reception and Study Centre for Children (RSCC), No. 4 Misamis Extension, Bagong Bantay, Quezon City.
2. The programme was part of the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy and Outreach efforts aimed at enhancing the perception of Malaysia within the Philippine public. The programme also aimed to develop people-to-people connectivity with the Philippines; as well as to increase Philippine goodwill towards Malaysia.
3. The programme stated with a meeting with Ms. Nene Casa, the officer in charge of the RSCC. During the meeting, the Embassy representatives were briefed on the centre which was established in 1964 by the Social Welfare Administration with the assistance of UNICEF. The centre accepts children below six years of age who are dependent, abandoned, neglected, physically abused, sexually abused and/or voluntarily surrendered. The RSCC is under the purview of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
4. The Embassy representatives and MTCP-SAPI members also took part in a Group Cleaning activity of the RSCC’s compound with materials donated by the Embassy and the MTCP-SAPI.
5. Following the cleaning activity, the children under the care of the RSCC were treated to a lunch where they indulged in various comfort foods such as spaghetti, fried chicken and cheeseburgers.
6. With Christmas approaching, the children were also given presents such as toys, bags and clothes.
7. The programme ended with a group photo opportunity with members of MTCP-SAPI; RSCC staff and children; and Embassy representatives.
