OFFICIAL VISIT OF Y.B. DATUK DR. HJ. ABD. LATIFF AHMAD, DEPUTY MINISTER OF DEFENCE, MALAYSIA TO THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES, 7-10 APRIL 2011

The Hon. Datuk Dr. Hj. Abd. Latiff Ahmad, Deputy Minister of Defence, Malaysia undertook a working visit to the Republic of the Philippines from 7 to 10 April 2011. The visit was the first visit by the Hon. Deputy Minister to the Philippines.

 

2.         From 7 to 9 April 2011, the Hon. Deputy Minister was in Manila where he made courtesy calls on H.E. Voltaire Gazmin, Secretary of National Defense, Philippines; and H.E. Teresita Deles, Presidential Advisor on the Peace Process. During the courtesy calls, the Hon. Deputy Minister discussed various issues of mutual interest such as the peace process and the situation in the Southern Philippines.

 

3.         The Hon. Deputy Minister and his delegation was hosted to a dinner by H.E. Dato Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines on 7 April 2011 at “Rumah Malaysia”, the Official Residence of the Ambassador in Makati City. Those who attended the dinner included members of the Malaysian community in the Philippines such as professional expatriates and students pursuing tertiary education in the country.

 

4.         On 9 and 10 April 2011, the Hon. Deputy Minister was in Mindanao to visit the International Monitoring Team – Mindanao 6 (IMT-M6) in Cotabato City where he met with the IMT-M6 led by Major General Dato’ Mahdi Yusof of the Malaysian Armed Forces. IMT-M6 took over from IMT-M5 on 12 March 2011.

 

5.         While in Mindanao the Hon. Deputy Minister also made a visit to the Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao City where he met with the Malaysian community residing in the city.

 

6.         Throughout the visit, the Hon Deputy Minister was accompanied by his spouse, Y.Bhg. Datin Hjh Zuraidah Endot; H.E. Dato Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines; and Lt. Gen. Datuk Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, Chief of Staff, Malaysian Armed Forces. The rest of the delegation comprised of senior officers from the Malaysian Armed Forces; officers from the Ministry of Defence, Malaysia; and officers from the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila. While in Mindanao, the Hon. Deputy Minister and delegation was also accompanied by Mr. Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, Consul General of Malaysia in Davao City.
