PRESENTATION OF CREDENTIALS
BY THE AMBASSADOR OF MALAYSIA
TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES
13 JULY 2010
H.E. Dato’ Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to the Republic of the Philippines presented his letter of credence to H.E. Mr. Benigno Aquino III, President of the Republic of the Philippines on Tuesday, 13 July 2010. The ceremony took place at Malacanang Palace, Manila. The previous Malaysian Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Dato’ Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi ended his tour of duty on 10 October 2009.
2. During the ceremony, the Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Zakaria Nasir, Minister/Deputy Head of Mission; Mr. Adnan Abbas, Minister Counsellor; Mdm. Vimala M. Murugan, Counsellor (Economic); and Mr. Hj. Rosli Saad, Second Secretary. The ceremony was also attended by senior government officials from the Presidential Office and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
3. Prior to his present appointment, the Ambassador held various high level positions in the government, private sector, sports and academia. Amongst these positions are as the President/CEO of the University of Kuala Lumpur (2002-05); Deputy Transport Minister (1999); Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (1995-99); Deputy Chief Minister of the State of Penang (1990-95); Member of Parliament for Tasek Gelugor, Penang (1995-99); United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) Supreme Council Member (1990-2000); Secretary General, Football Association of Malaysia (2005-07); and Vice-President, Olympic Council of Malaysia (2007-09). The Ambassador has also written a number of books on politics, society and education in Malaysia.
4. In his speech during the presentation of credentials, the Ambassador conveyed the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s warmest felicitations and best wishes towards the President’s good health, happiness, continued progress and prosperity of the people of the Philippines. The Ambassador also conveyed that Malaysia looks forward to further strengthen relations and cooperation with the Philippines at the bilateral and multilateral levels for mutual benefit. The Ambassador also stated that Malaysia is confident that under the leadership of the new President and his administration, Malaysia-Republic of Philippines relations will rise to greater heights.
5. H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad was born in 1946 and is married with five children. He graduated from the University of Malaya in 1969 and holds a Ph.D (1979) and two M.A.s (1974 and 1979) from the University of Wisconsin, USA.
