WORKING VIST OF THE HON. DATO’ SERI ANIFAH HJ. AMAN
MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, MALAYSIA
TO THE REPUBLIC OF PHILIPPINES
, 12-16 SEPTEMBER 2010The Hon. Dato’ Seri Anifah Hj. Aman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia undertook a working visit to the Republic of the Philippines from 12 to 16 September 2010.
2. During the visit, the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs made courtesy calls on H.E. Benigno S. Aquino III, President of the Republic of the Philippines and H.E. Alberto G. Romulo, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines. During the courtesy calls, the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed various bilateral relations and regional cooperation issues; and the peace process in the Southern Philippines.
3. The Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Philippines and other senior officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Philippines also hosted a lunch at the Peninsula Hotel, Manila for the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Malaysian delegation. On the Philippine side, the lunch was also attended by, amongst others, H.E. Congressman Nur G. Jaafar (Tawi-Tawi); H.E. Teresita Deles, Presidential Advisor on the Peace Process; H.E. Marvic Leonen, Chairman of the Philippine Panel, GRP-MILF Peace Talks; and H.E. Cesar Garcia, National Security Advisor.
4. The Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs also took the opportunity to visit the Embassy of Malaysia’s chancery building which is currently undergoing renovations.
5. Throughout the visit, the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs was accompanied by H.E. Dato’ Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines; H.E. Dato’ Harry Alian Baking, Senior Private Secretary to the Minister; and Ms. Chitra Devi Ramiah, Undersecretary for Development. The rest of the delegation comprised of officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia and officers from the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila.
6. In conjunction with Aidilfitri, on the third day of Shawal, 13 September 2010, the Ambassador of Malaysia hosted an Aidilfitri reception in honour of the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Official Residence or “Rumah Malaysia”. The Aidilfitri reception was also attended by foreign Ambassadors in the Philippines and the Malaysian community in the Philippines.
