It is both a privilege and a joy to stand as come together to celebrate two of the most cherished festivals in our cultural calendar i.e. Deepavali and Christmas. These festivals are a time of reflection, renewal, and togetherness, as we share in the spirit of light, hope, and generosity. Cultural heritage but also of the bonds that unite us all, regardless of our backgrounds.
As we celebrate these special occasions, it is also an opportune time to reflect on the enduring and meaningful relationship between Malaysia and the Philippines. This year marks the Diplomatic Relations, a significant milestone in the long-standing friendship and cooperation between our two nations.
This is an acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the Malaysian community here in the Philippines. Their presence and efforts have played a crucial role in strengthening the bonds between our two countries.
As we look ahead to the future, it is with great excitement that I share that Malaysia will officially assume the chairmanship of ASEAN on 1 January 2026. This presents a wonderful opportunity for us to further build upon the progress we have made in our region. We will focus on critical issues such as sustainable development, climate change, and economic resilience, and Malaysia is eager to continue fostering closer ties with all ASEAN member states, including the Philippines, as we work together to build a prosperous and peaceful Southeast Asia.
