Kuala Lumpur and Bucharest Pledge to Embark on Mutually Beneficial Cooperation

The meeting between the mayors of Kuala Lumpur and Bucharest has paved the way for new areas of cooperation.

In conjunction with the 550^th anniversary of Bucharest, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Ahmad Fuad Ismail, was invited by the Mayor of Bucharest to participate in a series of programmes to commemorate the event. As part of the series of activities, special programmes were arranged from 17 – 20 September 2009 for all visiting Mayors from other major cities in Europe and Asia, including the courtesy calls on the Mayor of Bucharest and Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies. During the courtesy call on the Mayor of Bucharest, both sides have agreed to collaborate and exchange of experiences in various fields of mutual interest.

The Mayor of Kuala Lumpur also brought along a cultural troupe to showcase Malaysian cultural performances as part of commemorative events organised by Bucharest City Hall. The troupe was given the opportunity to perform twice at the Constitution Square and received overwhelming response from the visitors. Apart from the live cultural performances, the Malaysia’s showcase was also telecast on a local tv network. The local spectators were presented with a selection of Malaysia's rich cultural heritage, which depicts different races, traditions and cultures from all community. The performance was not only promoted awareness about Malaysian culture in the country but also strengthen bonds of friendship between Malaysia and Romania.
