On 20 July 2013, South African Embassy in cooperation with The South Africa-Sudan Friendship has organized a community service program to celebrate the Mandela Day in Khartoum, Sudan. This year, it is an engagement in a school improvement project where volunteers assist in cleaning and painting the Hassan Saaed School. The volunteers among others were from Malaysian Embassy, British Embassy, Swiss Embassy, Dutch Embassy, Zimbabwe Embassy, United Nations as well as the teachers and pupils of the school.
Mandela Day which has been declared by United Nations is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better and in doing so build a global movement for good. Citizens from across the globe are encouraged to honour Nelson Mandela by dedicating 67 minutes, being number of years he spent serving others, of their time in the spirit of service to fellow human beings.
