PM'S VISIT ABROAD SHOWS EFFORTS TO PROMOTE MALAYSIA AS INVESTMENT DESTINATION

KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 2010 (Bernama) -- The visits by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to the country's major trading and investment partners have sent a strong signal that he is working hard to promote Malaysia as an investment destination.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Richard Riot Jaem cited the recent visit to the United States of America which succeeded in attracting several giant companies involved in research and manufacturing to invest RM5 billion in Malaysia.

"In the effort to make Malaysia a global economic player, these visits have succeeded in further strengthening cooperation in various fields, including investment, finance and banking, especially in Islamic banking, like the visits to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia," he said in the Dewan Rakyat Thursday.

He was responding to a question by Juslie Ajirol (BN-Libaran) on the outcome of Najib's visits abroad in an effort to make Malaysia a global economic player.

Richard said the visits, including to China, India and Japan, had also given Najib and other government leaders the opportunity to exchange views on various bilateral, regional and international issues.

To a question whether the prime minister would visit Israel and have a dialogue with its leaders to address the Gaza issue, Richard said that so far, the government had no intention to have a dialogue with the Israeli leaders.
