Khartoum, Jan. 23 (SUNA) - President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, Sunday awarded Nelein Order (First Class) [Order of the Two Niles] to the Malaysian Ambassador to Sudan, Zainal Hamzah, in recognition of his efforts in boosting the bilateral relations and cooperation between Sudan and Malaysia in all domains.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Ambassador expressed in a statement to SUNA after the farewell ceremony held at the Republican Palace Sunday, on the expiry of his assignment to Sudan, his gratitude to the President for honouring him with the high-ranking Order, considering it as an honour to his country and demonstration of the President's concern with the progress of the bilateral Sudanese - Malaysian relations.
Ambassador Hamzah affirmed the determination of his country to bolster its economic relations with the Sudan at all the domains, particularly in the petroleum field, voicing out Malaysia's thanks to Sudan for giving Malaysia Petroleum Company (PETRONAS) the privilege to invest in the oil sector in Sudan, pointing out that the Sudanese - Malaysian cooperation became a model for the successful economic cooperation.
Ambassador Hamzah affirmed his country's keenness to boost its relations with the Sudan regardless of the referendum results.
The Ambassador of Malaysia further reviewed the aspects of the relations of cooperation between Malaysia and Sudan, particularly the educational and cultural aspects, revealing that the number of Sudanese Students in Malaysia reached 5,000 students, besides Sudanese beneficiaries from the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) which serves the South - South Cooperation.
